Finn & Anderson lead England to Victory

January 20, 2015

Steven Finn and James Anderson tore through the Indian batting line up in Brisbane to pick up England’s first win in the Carlton Mid Tri-Series.

Finn recorded figures of 5-33 his one day best and Anderson coming back from a knee injury with an impressive 4-18.

India who won the toss and choose to bat were bowled out for 153 in 39.3 overs. After being 67-5 it could be a lot worst for India had it not been for the Skipper MS Dhoni & Stuart Binny stand of 70.

When Dhoni departed in the 37th over, it wasn’t long before the innings was over. Axar Patel was out to Man of the Match Finn the very next ball to leave the score 137-7.

India scrambled to a mediocre 153 on what looked like a very good pitch to bat on.

England came out to bat before the tea interval in which an over aggressive Moeen Ali gave a catch to Kohli at mid-off off the bowling of Stuart Binny for 8.

Ian Bell & James Taylor who both got ducks in their last match against Australia, batted brilliantly this time around to finish the game off for England in just 27.3 overs.

Bell who struck a well played 88 off 91 balls look to have cemented his spot at the top of the order for the World cup squad. James Taylor who played an equally good knock of 56 of 63 balls, also has hit some form at the right time.

England secured the bonus point on offer in this game to go into 2nd position in the Carlton Mid Tri-series. They travel to Hobart for the next game on Friday against Australia who are currently top of the table.

India lost too many wickets up top in this match and found it very hard to get back into the game.

On the plus side it was really good to see Steven Finn back to his best. A year ago it was a completely different story as he came home early from an Ashes series at the same ground. So too see a years hard work pay off must be very pleasing for the English Cricket team.
