Finch stars in Australia win

August 30, 2013

Australia beat England by 39 runs in last night’s first Twenty20 match at the Ageas Bowl thanks largely to Aaron Finch who hit a spectacular 156 from just 63 balls.

This astonishing innings was a world record in helping Australia post a mammoth score of 248-6 from their allotted 20 overs. Finch struck 14 sixes and 11 fours as England had no answers to the hard hitting opening batsman.

In reply England played well in reaching 209-6 but in truth they were never in the contest. Joe Root again showed in class and adaptability in all forms of the game in scoring 90 not out from 49 deliveries.

The teams now move up to Durham were they will meet in the second match in the series.

Earlier in the day the England women’s team regained the Ashes by beating Australia on the same pitch.

Who need a pinch hitter when you have a Finch hitter?

Michael Vaughan says give the crowd a refund? Is he kidding? More runs scored today than in any previous T20 international!
