Charl Willoughby

by Harrias

Charl Willoughby has signed a two year contract with Essex after leaving Somerset.

Willoughby’s contract will see him play at Chelmsford up until the end of 2013 season. Willoughby joins Essex at the age of 36 with plenty of experience, along with a good first class record.

The former South African international bowler who was born in Cape Town played just the two Test matches for his home country. In 2005 Willoughby joined Leicestershire for a season, before moving to the West Country to play for Somerset in 2006. Willoughby had remained with the county ever since playing as an English qualified Kolpak player.

Essex Director of Cricket Paul Grayson will be hoping that Willoughby improves on his 827 first class wickets in his time at Chelmsford, as well as passing on his expertise to a group of you Essex fast bowlers.

Willoughby adds variation to any attack with his tall left arm over action, and the Essex fans will be hoping he can help them push for promotion from division two in 2012.

There are reports in that Charl will be starring in the next series of The Only Way is Essex to replace Mark Wright who’s in the jungle. To be fair this is a great signing- he could be a handful at Chelmsford early season!
