England fans hit with price rise

The Sri Lankan Cricket Board have dramatically increased the prices of tickets for England’s first Test match of their tour of Sri Lanka in Galle.

Fans are being asked to pay 10 times the amount of that of a recent match against Australia on the same ground. Tickets today have gone for £25, compared to that of £2.50 in September when Australia visited.

One of the reasons for the increase was the amount of debt that the governing body of Sri Lankan cricket ran into after the World Cup last year. This was down to the improvements in the Stadia to which Sri Lanka struggled to fill during the tournament.

Speaking about England’s touring fans, Andrew Strauss said: “Clearly we want to have as many fans as possible in the ground and we know the Barmy Army always travels and supports us wherever we go in the world.”
