South African batsman JP Duminy has signed a two month contract with Surrey County Cricket Club to be their overseas player for the final two months of the season.

The left handed batsman replaces Graeme Smith as Surrey’s overseas in this period after Smith had to return home after just four weeks of the County season. The club currently have legendry Australian batsman Ricky Ponting in the role which was agreed on a two month basis during the months of June and July.

Duminy will arrive in South London in early August following South Africa’s tour of Sri Lanka. The 29 year-old will be available for Surrey’s final six County Championship games. These matches could be vital to Surrey’s chances of remaining in division one after what has been a disappointing start to the season by Chris Adams’ side.

Duminy has scored 789 runs in 17 Test matches at an average of 37.57. Duminy has also featured in 97 ODI’s, and 42 T20 internationals for his country.
