Dravid confirms retirement

Rahul Dravid has today announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect in a news conference in Bangalore.

Dravid has stated that he still intends to play in this season’s IPL with the Rajasthan Royals.

Speaking of his decision to step away from international cricket, Dravid said: “”It’s time to move on, once I was like every other boy in India with a dream to play for my country. I have had a wonderful time. Now it’s time for a new generation of young players to take it forward and make history.”

He added: “It was about playing with dignity, upholding the spirit of the game. I have tried my best. I leave with sadness but also with pride.”

Along with Dravid’s many runs, he will also be remembered a one of the true gentlemen of the game.

ODIs: 344 games, 10,889 runs, average 39.16, catches 196, stumpings 14
