Day 5: Australia 406-9 & 192-7 beat West Indies 449-9 & 148 by three wickets

A pulsating final day at the Kensington Oval saw Australia beat West Indies by three wickets in the first Test in Bridgetown.

Australia dismissed West Indies for just 148 in their second innings, leaving the visitors chasing 192 for victory in the last innings of the match. Australia got over the line but it was a nervy run chase as they lost wickets throughout.

Shane Watson top scored with 52, but it was Mike Hussey that played the vital innings with 32 from 26 balls confirming victory. His innings included two towering sixes.

Ben Hilfenhaus hit the winnings runs handing Australia a 1-0 series lead with two Test matches to play. Spinner Narsingh Deonarine took four wickets for the hosts but it was in the end a disappointing day for West Indies.

For much of the game West Indies were in control of this match, and defeat will be a hard pill for Darren Sammy and his men to swallow. Australia will head to Trinidad knowing that victory will secure the series in the second Test.
