West Indian batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul has signed a two-year contract with Derbyshire County Cricket Club.
Chanderpaul is expected to be available for all three domestic competitions during the 2013 campaign. 2012 saw Derbyshire gain promotion to division 1 of the County Championship.
The left-hander from Guyana is rated as the second best batsman in Test cricket, and has scored more than 10,500 Test match runs in 146 Test matches.
Chanderpaul, at 38 will bring a huge amount of experience to the dressing room at Derby, and he has had previous experience of county cricket after spells with Durham, Lancashire and Warwickshire.
Derbyshire head coach Karl Krikken said: “He knows what it takes to be successful and, as well as his outstanding ability with the bat, there is no doubt Shivnarine will have a hugely positive effect on our talented young squad as we embark on the challenge of Division One cricket.”
Derbyshire have a tough start to the 2013 season as they begin their campaign against last year’s champions Warwickshire.
