Marcus Trescothick hit a century on day two at New Road to lead a Somerset fight back against Worcestershire.

The visitors finished at stumps on 198-0, which leaves them 290 runs adrift of Worcestershire, who earlier in the day were bowled out for 488.

The main stay of the Worcestershire innings was Moeen Ali who hit a superb 158 from just 244 balls which put the home side in control.

However in 60 overs bowling Worcestershire failed to make the breakthrough with Arul Suppiah 86 not out and Somerset’s captain Trescothick 106 unbeaten. The former England opener has now recorded 6 championship centuries and in the process has passed 1,500 first class runs for the season.

Needing a win to keep the pressure on Durham and Lancashire, Somerset will need to bat all day tomorrow and hope for some magic from their bowlers on the final day in order to push for victory. Worcestershire will be hoping to see the back of Trescothick early tomorrow morning.
