Lancashire qualified for this year’s FL Twenty20 last night after defeating Warwickshire at Old Trafford.

Knowing a win would secure their passage through, the hosts got off to a good start with the bat, as openers Stephen Moore and Tom Smith put on 61 for the first wicket. It was former Worcester man Stephen Moore that was making most of the running, as he made 76 from just 58 balls.

Lancashire finished their 20 overs on 139-8 after a disappointing back end to their innings where they lost wickets consistently, which halted their charge. Ant Botha, Darren Maddy, and Chris Woakes picked up two wickets a piece for the Bears.

The ever reliable William Porterfield got the visitors off to a good start in reply, but Warwickshire could never get their run rate up to where it needed to be. Even Porterfield’s 63 from 64 came off less than a run a ball.

In the end Warwickshire finished on 127-4 which handed Lancashire the 12 run victory ensuring their quarter final status.
