Australian captain Michael Clarke has signed a contract with the Indian Premier League side Pune Warriors.

It is the first time Clarke will play in the IPL after turning down several opportunities because of his commitment to the Australian national team.

Clarke will miss the first three weeks of the 2012 IPL due to Australia’s Test series in the Caribbean.

Since taking over as Australian captain, Australia’s fortunes have turned around under Clarke. The 30 year old masterminded Australia’s 4-0 success over India this winter, and contributed heavily with the bat, including a triple hundred at the SCG.

When Clarke arrives in India he will team up with Pune Warriors captain Sourav Ganguly, as well as the likes of Graeme Smith, Yuvraj Singh and Angelo Matthews.
