An injury scare to Stuart Broad has overshadowed the first day of England’s warm up match with a Sri Lankan Board XI in Colombo.

The England fast bowler tripped over the boundary rope during a fielding warm up and sprained his left ankle. Broad was due to play in the match but was pulled out and replaced by Steven Finn.

England have not deemed the injury serious enough to send Broad for a scan but Broad will be closely monitored by the England medical department in the next 48 hours.

Despite losing the Test series in the UAE 3-0 to Pakistan, Broad was one of England’s most consistent performers. The Nottinghamshire seamer bowled with great control in what were difficult conditions for fast bowling.

England will be hoping that Broad can recover in time to face Sri Lanka in the first Test match against Sri Lanka which gets underway on 26th March in Galle.

Very sad news, he is one of Englands consistent performers so he will be missed!
