Stuart Broad took a wicket of the first ball of the second day handing him career best figures of 7-72 as England bowled West Indies out for 243. In reply at lunch England have reached 80-1, with captain Andrew Strauss unbeaten on 30.

It was a fine performance in the field by England on day 1 on a pitch that looks good for batting, despite the overhead conditions favouring swing bowling. It was only the experienced Shivnarine Chanderpaul that looked at ease when facing England’s seamers.

Chanderpaul was left stranded this morning on 87* just thirteen runs short of his 26th Test century.

England will be hoping Strauss (30*) and Jonathan Trott (17*) can bat the afternoon session in the hope of building a big first innings lead.
