Gloucestershire have announced that director of cricket John Bracewell has signed a new three-year contract extension with the county.

Gloucestershire just missed out on promotion to division 1 of the County Championship in 2011, in a season that was regarded as a success by many at the county. Bracewell coached Gloucestershire from 1998 until 2003 in what was a hugely successful time. In this time Gloucestershire won 5 one-day trophies.

The 53-year-old returned to the county in 2009 after a spell coaching the New Zealand national side.

Speaking about the future of Gloucestershire cricket, Bracewell said: “During the next three years the squad will mature and I am very much looking forward to seeing that happen. I enjoy working with young cricketers and the ones here at the moment have excellent skills and energy to build upon.”

Bracewell will be hoping his largely in-experienced squad can yet again push for promotion out of division 2 in 2012.
