CB series Final, Adelaide
Australia 231 (49.3 overs) beat Sri Lanka (48.5 overs) by 16 runs

A brilliant bowling and fielding display saw Australia win the CB series against Sri Lanka in Adelaide by just 16 runs.

Australia batting first, stuttered to just 231 all out in 49.3 overs, on another excellent batting surface. No Australian batsman recorded a half century, as Australia struggled to cope with Sri Lanka’s slower bowlers. Matthew Wade top scored for the home side with 49 from 74 balls at the top of the order.

Rangana Herath was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka with figures of 3-36 from 10 overs, and included the vital wicket of Wade.

Sri Lanka were hot favourites to chase down 232 for victory, but Australia put in their best one-day bowling performance of the series. This was led by Clint Mckay with figures of 5-28 from 9.5 overs. Despite 71 from 122 balls from Upal Tharanga, Sri Lanka had no answer to Mckay. Brett Lee also contributed with three wickets, including the important scalp of the in-form Dilshan for just 8.

Despite not playing in this match through a hamstring injury, Michael Clarke will be proud of his first summer in charge of the team. Australia defeated India 4-0 in the Test series, and backed this up with a CB series triumph over Sri Lanka and India.

Australia now travel to the Caribbean where they will play the West Indies in all three formats of the game.
