Ashwell Prince will be returning to Old Trafford in 2012 for his third stint at Lancashire.

The South African left-handed batsman will play the County Championship matches and the CB40 one-day games in 2012.

Prince first played for Lancashire in 2009 when he replaced VVS Laxman in the side, and he returned to the county the following year. Prince has featured in 66 Test matches for South Africa and has scored 3,665 runs, including 11 centuries. However, Price was dropped from the team half way through their home series with Sri Lanka this winter.

Lancashire, who won the County Championship for the first time since 1934, are delighted to have the services of such an experienced player. Director of cricket Mike Watkinson said: “Ashwell is a world-class batsman who has a wealth of experience and talent. He will bring additional quality to the top order and will have a positive influence on the squad.”

Lancashire begin their season with a friendly match against an MCC XI captained by Mark Ramprakash, in Abu Dhabi on 27th March.
